5th Annual Blue Robbon Blues Fest Fairfield Ia

We are so excited to bring to all of our BLUES loving friends, the 8th annual Blue Ribbon Blues Fest, Saturday August 7th at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Fairfield Iowa.  Gates will open at 4pm and music will begin at 4:30pm..  This year we have an exceptional line up and for only $25 for tickets and $20 for Blues Society Members, you will get to hear a great evening of the Blues from the entree below.  Yes we will again have available fresh barbecue, the beer bus, and more.  Check out the great music line up below.

Headlining for your enjoyment will be the Joanna Connor Band, a lady who's passion will keep your feet wanting to dance.  While working continuously in Chicago, a handful of videos of her incendiary slide guitar solos went viral creating quite a sensation and garnering attention from media and established musicians alike. Joe Bonamassa sought her out and offered to produce the kind of record he felt Joanna had always had in her and should deliver to the world. 4801 South Indiana is this record, a blues record that delivers all the raw emotion, passion, and fire that made the Blues so compelling from its inception. Joe Bonamassa did not merely produce, arrange, and play on the record, he enabled and inspired Joanna to pull from deep within her all of what her life in music had given her. While steeped in tradition, the recording is no museum piece, it is alive and it is kicking, once-in-a-lifetime Blues.

Joanna has received National and International accolades in the press and radio media resulting in a decade of world tours, a dozen recordings on Ruf Records, MC Records and others, a documentary on Germany's WDR Television, and a multitude of TV appearances and radio features.  Joanna and band shared stages with Blues, Rock and Jazz greats, including Luther Allison, BB King, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Robben Ford, Danny Gatton, Robert Cray, Jimmy Page, ZZ Top, Joe Cocker, Etta James, and others.  Joanna has also signed endorsement deals with Gibson Guitars, Victoria Amps and Orange Amps.  Great ready to enjoy the best the blues has to offer.

The Rev and his blues band are back!!

Bringing crowds to their feet at the hardest to please and sophisticated night clubs in the Midwest, Reverend Raven and the Chain Smoking Altar Boys with West Side Andy play traditional blues, straight up with a big dose of passion. With smoking grooves, served up with hot harmonica and smooth stinging guitar they play original songs peppered with nods to Slim Harpo, Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers, Billy Boy Arnold, Junior Wells and the three Kings.

Born and raised on south side of Chicago, the Reverend has been playing the blues since 1971 when he first saw Freddy King play at the Kinetic Theatre in Chicago. After 15 year hitch in the Navy, Chief Raven moved to Milwaukee where he began a long friendship and collaboration with Madison Slim, long time harmonica player for Jimmy Rogers.

Since 1990 he has opened for B.B King, Gatemouth Brown, Pinetop Perkins, Koko Taylor Band, Junior Wells, Billy Branch, Magic Slim, Elvin Bishop, Sugar Blue, Lonnie Brooks, William Clarke, Lefty Dizz, Rod Piazza, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Duke Robillard, Jeff Healy, Trampled Underfoot, Mike Zito, Nick Moss, Tommy Castro and numerous others at festivals and at Buddy Guy's Legends where he has been on rotation for over 18 years.

Vocalist extraordinaire, Tina Haase Findlay, is a 30-year veteran of the Iowa and regional music scene.  From trailer courts to The Governor's Mansion, from garage bands to symphonies, Tina has shared stages/opened for, among others: Robert Cray, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Johnny Rivers, Trampled Underfoot, and Bruce Katz. She gave a show stopping performance singing with Joanna Connor's band at the 2017 Bowlful of Blues fest.  Tina is in The Iowa Jazz Hall of Fame, is a three-time Iowa Blues Challenge finalist, and in 2015, Tina and her husband, Brandon, won the Iowa solo/duo challenge.  Guitarist, Rob Lumbard, received his musical education in his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa sitting in with the likes of Luther Allison, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, who played in the barrooms along Forest Avenue.  Rob has played on the same bill as The Band, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Leon Redbone and dozens of others.  Lumbard's release, Blues In A Bottle, won the International Blues Foundation's 2016 Best self-produced CD award. He's in The Iowa Blues Hall of Fame, the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and is an honorary member of the Central Iowa Blues Society. Rob has participated in the Blues In The Schools program assisting Fruteland Jackson, and Chicago blues veteran Billy Branch.

Tony Blew,  will be providing that can't stop the blues music between our music acts. Tony is a rare and talented, multi instrument player and writer who keeps the blues rockin without pause. Tony Blew began playing professionally in 1963 and early in his career he played guitar in the Soul R&B band TCB which was featured in an I.E.B.N. TV special, "Get Down with TCB". He also spent nearly a decade touring the country in a trio with his dad. In the 1980s, Tony and drummer David Bernstein started the band Shabazz which enjoyed great success.

As well as playing at night, Tony and recording engineer/producer Phil Richardson teamed up to form Richtone Audio Ads, a jingle house that produced commercials, soundbeds, and jingles for ad agencies all over the country. Through the 1990s, Tony played with the trio Class Act. The group spent 10 years touring the Midwest, highlighted by a gig opening for Tom Arnold and Rosanne Barr at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines.

Playing as a solo act with the help of his looper pedal, he plays all the instruments you hear including guitar, drums, bass, piano, organ, harp and sax, this is real music magic, live up close and in person.
